Giraffe at the Bar Exhibit Opening

The Giraffe at the Bar exhibit opening took place Saturday night at Canteen to great success. Thank you to Marco Frascari, Director of the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism and other faculty who joined us for the evening. Special thanks to Maria Cook, Staff Reporter with the Ottawa Citizen, who will be featuring the exhibition on her Blog, http://www.designingottawa.com/ as well. I was thrilled to see so many students and alumini come to enjoy the show.

The Giraffe at the Bar Exhibition run until April 30 at Canteen located at 238 Dalhousie St.

Ghost 11

June 13 - 27th, 2009 I will be joining a select group of other 'ghostees' for the Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple annual Ghost Architectural Labratory. During these two weeks, we will work along Brian Mackay-Lyons, Talbot Sweetapple and some top notch master craftsman to design and build a pavillion following the material cultural traditions of Nova Scotia. It is an opportunity to learn some of the time honoured stick framing traditions of vernacular Atlantic Canadian architecture.

I'm using this opporunity largely for my thesis development, though I'm not quite sure how it will work it's way in yet beyond research into the material culture of Atlantic Canada at this point. None the less, I know it will have a profound effect on my thesis outcome.

I will be sure to post full documentation of my time at GHOST later!

The Giraffe at the Bar Exhibit

The graduate studio work I completed under the mentorship of Roger Connah (http://melissawakefieldarchitecture.blogspot.com/2009/03/blog-post.html) is being showcased at the end of the month at a neat little gallery in the heart of Ottawa. I am coordinating the event with the help of Roger, two of my studio mates and the owner of Canteen, Inaas. I am really excited for the upcoming opening, and anxious to see how it is received by the public. I believe this is the first public exhibit by a studio group from the Carleton University Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism.

The exhibit runs April 25-30th, 2009 at Canteen, 238 Dalhousie in Ottawa. If you are in town, check it out!
